ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Product Description
Product Description-Calcium Chloride CAS#10043-52-4
Anhydrous calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is a highly versatile inorganic compound present as white porous crystals or granules. It has strong deliquescent properties — capable of absorbing over 300% of its weight in water — with a melting point of 782°C, density of 2.15 g/cm³ and boiling point above 1600°C. It dissolves readily in water with notable heat release, and is also soluble in ethanol and acetone.
Its most common form, calcium chloride hexahydrate (CaCl₂·6H₂O), is colorless trigonal crystals with high hygroscopicity and a bitter-salty taste, having a density of 1.71 g/cm³. It dissolves in its own crystallization water at 29.92°C. Heating to 30°C removes four water molecules to form the dihydrate (CaCl₂·2H₂O), a white porous moisture-absorbing solid; further heating yields the monohydrate, and temperatures over 200°C produce fully dehydrated, highly hygroscopic anhydrous calcium chloride. Additionally, calcium chloride reacts with ammonia to form the ammoniate compound CaCl₂·8NH₃.
Product Applications-Calcium Chloride CAS#10043-52-4
Medical use: It can be formulated into a 2% calcium chloride injection, used for the treatment of conditions such as hypocalcemia.
Food use: It can be added to food as a calcium fortifier, or used as a coagulant for tofu and cheese.
Industrial use: It serves as a versatile desiccant, for example, in the drying of gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride, and sulfur dioxide. It is also used as a dehydrating agent in the production of alcohols, esters, ethers, and acrylic resins.
