ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Product Description
Product Description-Sorbitol CAS#50-70-4
This white, odorless crystalline powder has a sweet taste and hygroscopic properties. It is readily soluble in water (235 g per 100 g at 25°C), glycerin and propylene glycol, moderately soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, and phenol and acetamide solutions, and nearly insoluble in most other organic solvents.
Product Applications-Sorbitol CAS#50-70-4
Sorbitol finds extensive applications across the daily chemical, food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In daily chemicals, it serves as an excipient, humectant and antifreeze in toothpaste at a 25–30% dosage to maintain the paste’s lubricity, color and taste; in cosmetics, it replaces glycerol as an anti-drying agent to improve emulsion extensibility and long-term storage stability, while its low-irritation sorbitan ester and ethoxylate derivatives are also widely used. In the food industry, it prevents food drying and preserves freshness and softness with remarkable effects in bread and cakes; with lower sweetness than sucrose and no bacterial utilization, it is a core raw material for sugar-free candies and anti-caries foods, and acts as a safe sweetener and nutrient for diabetic patients since it does not raise blood glucose levels. Free of aldehyde groups and resistant to oxidation, it avoids Maillard reactions with amino acids when heated, and can extend the shelf life of concentrated milk, fish paste and jams while stabilizing their color, flavor and taste. In pharmaceuticals, it is a feedstock for vitamin C production, and is also used in syrups, injections and tablets as a dispersant, filler, cryoprotectant, anti-crystallizing agent, stabilizer, wetting agent, capsule plasticizer, sweetener and ointment base. In the chemical sector, sorbitol abietate is applied in architectural coatings and as plasticizers and lubricants for PVC and other polymers; it forms complexes with metal ions in alkaline solutions for textile washing and bleaching, and can react with propylene oxide to produce rigid polyurethane foam with certain flame retardant properties.
