ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Product Description
Product Description-Methanol CAS#67-56-1
Methanol, commonly known as "wood alcohol", is the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol. It is a colorless, transparent, flammable, volatile toxic liquid with a faint alcoholic odor. Ingesting 5–10 ml can cause blindness, while larger doses may be fatal. It is non-corrosive to most metals at room temperature, with the exception of lead and aluminum. Its key physical parameters include a relative density of 0.792 (20/4℃), melting point of -97.8℃, boiling point of 64.5℃, flash point of 12.22℃ and autoignition temperature of 463.89℃. It has a vapor density of 1.11, vapor pressure of 13.33 kPa (100 mmHg at 21.2℃), and an explosive limit of 6%–36.5% by volume in air. Miscible with water, ethanol, ether, benzene, ketones and halogenated hydrocarbons, it is commonly used as a solvent, antifreeze, fuel and neutralizer.
Product Applications-Methanol CAS#67-56-1
Methanol is a versatile organic chemical feedstock and high-quality fuel. It is mainly used in fine chemicals and plastics to produce formaldehyde, acetic acid, methyl chloride, methylamine, dimethyl sulfate and other organic compounds, and also serves as a key raw material for pesticides and pharmaceuticals. With further processing, it can be applied as a clean fuel or blended with gasoline for combustion.
Methanol readily undergoes esterification with sulfuric and carbonic acids. It reacts slowly with hydrochloric acid at 0°C, and dehydrates to form dimethyl ether (CH₃-O-CH₃) at 160°C in the presence of sulfuric acid, metaphosphoric acid or boron trioxide; its vapor can also be dehydrated into ether over alumina (200°C) or thorium oxide (400°C) catalysts. As a solvent, it partially dissolves metal halides and organic acid salts, while sulfates are barely soluble and carbonates are insoluble. It is also a precursor for manufacturing formaldehyde, formic acid and various inorganic and organic acid esters.
