ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Product Description

Product Description-Thiourea dioxide CAS#1758-73-2

Thiourea dioxide, also known as carboxamidine sulfinic acid or aminoiminomethanesulfinic acid, is a stable compound with neither oxidizing nor reducing properties under specified conditions. Obtained from ethanol as colorless to white, odorless needle crystals or crystalline powder, it has a molecular weight of 108.12, a relative density of 1.4 and a decomposition melting point of 126°C. It has about 2–3% water solubility at room temperature with neutral to slightly alkaline aqueous solutions, dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid, is slightly soluble in acetic acid and insoluble in common organic solvents.

Product Applications-Thiourea dioxide CAS#1758-73-2

Thiourea dioxide is widely used as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing industry for wool bleaching, vat and sulfur dyeing, disperse dye reduction and discharge printing. In organic synthesis, it reduces ketones, quinones, nitro, azo, azoxy, sub-azo compounds and organic sulfides, and also functions in decolorizing agents, as a photographic emulsion sensitizer, a rare metal separation reagent for rhodium and iridium, and a polyethylene stabilizer. It improves the color of polyacrylonitrile when added during its evaporation and polymerization, serving as an important auxiliary in synthetic fiber manufacturing, and is also widely applied in fine chemicals such as pharmaceuticals and fragrances.
