ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Product Description

Product Description-Ammonium thiosulfate CAS#7783-18-8

Ammonium thiosulfate ((NH₄)₂S₂O₃, molecular weight 148.20) is a colorless monoclinic crystalline substance with a decomposition melting point of 150°C and a relative density of 1.679. It is readily soluble in water, slightly soluble in acetone and insoluble in ethanol; its aqueous solution may precipitate sulfur after prolonged standing, and concentrated aqueous solutions gradually decompose into sulfur and sulfate above 50°C, while forming ammonium thiocyanate and ammonium sulfite in the presence of ammonia and hydrocyanic acid. Capable of dissolving silver halides, its aqueous solution has higher solubility for silver chloride and silver bromide than sodium thiosulfate, making it suitable for fast fixing applications, though it also dissolves the metallic silver that constitutes the image.

Product Applications-Ammonium thiosulfate CAS#7783-18-8

Ammonium thiosulfate is used for gold and silver leaching due to its strong complexing ability, and serves as a faster photographic fixing agent than sodium thiosulfate, a fertilizer, an additive for coal-waste mixtures to inhibit the formation of hazardous dioxins and furans, and a laboratory analytical reagent. It also finds applications in cleaning "white" metals, photographic processing, and lubricants for cold metal working.
