Dicyandiamide (DICY/DCD), an organic compound with formula C₂H₄N₄, is a cyanamide dimer and cyanosubstituted guanidine derivative. This white crystalline powder dissolves in water, alcohol, ethylene glycol and dimethylformamide, yet is nearly insoluble in ether and benzene. It is stable under dry conditions.
Product Applications-Dicyandiamide CAS#461-58-5
Dicyandiamide reacts with acids to form guanidine salts, and with benzonitrile to give cyanamide for coatings, laminates and molding powders. Its formaldehyde-based resin serves as a dye fixative.
In fertilizers, it inhibits nitrifying bacteria to reduce nitrogen loss and boost fertilizer efficiency.
As a fine-chemical intermediate, it produces guanidine nitrate, sulfonamides, thiourea, rubber accelerators, steel hardeners, adhesives and other chemicals; reaction with formic acid yields pharmaceutical intermediate 5-azacytosine.
It is also applied in cobalt, nickel, copper and palladium testing, organic synthesis, detergent and resin synthesis.
