ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Product Description
Product Description-Silicon Metal 553
Metallic silicon (industrial silicon) is the "salt" of modern industry, an important industrial raw material smelted in a submerged arc furnace using silica and carbonaceous reducing agents. Its main component is silicon, containing impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium. It is widely used as an additive in non-ferrous metal alloys, in steel smelting, and in the aluminum industry (aerospace and automotive parts manufacturing). Industrial silicon can be purified into polycrystalline silicon and monocrystalline silicon for use in the photovoltaic and electronics industries.
Product Application-Silicon Metal 553
Chemical Applications:
Metallic silicon feeds the manufacture of silicones, synthetic silica and silanes.
Silicones serve construction (insulating rubber), oil & gas (defoamers), and personal care (cosmetics).
Technical Applications:
Aluminum alloys: Added to molten aluminum to tune fluidity and boost alloy mechanical performance.
Solar: Ultra-high-purity silicon is the mainstream material for solar panels and silicon solar cells.
Electronics: Ultra-high-purity silicon for semiconductors, transistors, PCBs and ICs.
Li-ion batteries: Minor consumption (<1,000 t/y) for graphite-based anodes.
It also finds use in explosives, refractories and ceramics.
