ABOUT THE PRODUCT
Product Description
Product Description-PROPYLENE CAS#115-07-1
Propylene (CH₂=CHCH₃) is the second-simplest olefin and one of the most important organic chemical feedstocks after ethylene and benzene. It is typically recovered from thermal- and catalytic-cracking gases, and is also a by-product of ethylene production from light-oil cracking.
Its carbon-carbon double bond enables addition reactions with hydrogen, halogens and hydrogen halides, as well as addition polymerization. Propylene is a key raw material for acrylonitrile, polypropylene, ethylene-propylene rubber, propylene oxide, acetone, and various synthetic resins, rubbers, fibers and plastics.
Product Applications-PROPYLENE CAS#115-07-1
Propylene is a vital chemical feedstock for many downstream products. Gas-phase oxidation converts it to acrolein, which is further processed into acrylic acid, allyl alcohol, glyceraldehyde, hydroxyacetaldehyde and the food/feed additive methionine.
Ammoxidation yields acrylonitrile, a key material for synthetic fibers, rubbers and plastics. Chlorination gives chloropropylene, an intermediate for allyl alcohol, propylene dichlorohydrin and chloropropionitrile, which go on to glycerin, epoxy resins, chlorohydrin rubber and surfactants.
Alkylation produces cumene, the main intermediate for phenol, with acetone as a valuable co-product. Oxo synthesis yields n- and isobutyraldehyde, important intermediates for plasticizers, dyes, solvents, pesticides and other organic chemicals.
Hydration gives isopropyl alcohol, used to make acetone, isopropylamine and isopropyl esters. Propylene can also be dimerized, trimerized, polymerized or tetramerized into ethylene, propylene trimers, polypropylene and dodecene—the last being a key surfactant intermediate.
