ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Product Description

Product Description-Titanium tetrachloride CAS#7550-45-0

Titanium tetrachloride (TiCl₄) is the most important titanium halide and a key feedstock for producing titanium sponge and chloride-process titanium dioxide. Pure TiCl₄ is a colorless, transparent, dense, non-conductive liquid with a relative density of 1.726, melting point −25 °C and boiling point 136.4 °C.

It has a sharp, pungent acidic odor and hydrolyzes readily, fuming in moist air. It decomposes on contact with water, dissolves in alcohol and concentrated hydrochloric acid, and is miscible with chloroform and carbon tetrachloride.

It is manufactured by compacting titanium dioxide with carbon powder and maltose, coking the mixture, then chlorinating above 600 °C with chlorine gas or chlorinating agents such as carbon tetrachloride.

Product Applications-Titanium tetrachloride CAS#7550-45-0

Titanium tetrachloride is the primary feedstock for titanium sponge and chloride-process titanium dioxide, and a key component of ethylene-polymerization catalysts. It is also used to make pigments, titanium organic compounds and defense smoke-screen agents, and serves as an effective solvent for synthetic resins, rubber, plastics and other organic materials.
