ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Product Description

Product Description-Pyrophosphoric acid CAS#2466-09-3

Pyrophosphoric acid: colorless needle crystal / viscous liquid; may form glassy solid on long storage. Pyrophosphate has strong coordination capacity; excess P₂O₇⁴⁻ dissolves insoluble metal pyrophosphates to form metal complex ions. Used as industrial catalyst for organic phosphate synthesis. White precipitate with silver salts; slow conversion of P₂O₇⁴⁻ to PO₄³⁻ enables differentiation from phosphate (yellow Ag₃PO₄ precipitate). Produced by dehydrating orthophosphoric acid at ~210°C. Soluble in ethanol/ether; corrosive, burns tissue. Solid form highly hygroscopic, soluble in water, ethanol and ether. Decomposes above melting point into mixed phosphoric acids; stable in ice water but decomposes when heated. Type I crystal MP:54.3°C; converts to room-temperature stable Type II (MP:71.5°C) upon sealed heating at ~50°C.

Product Applications-Pyrophosphoric acid CAS#2466-09-3

Pyrophosphoric acid functions as a catalyst, masking agent, metal refining agent and stabilizer for organic peroxides. Additionally, it is applied to adjust the pH of plating solutions in copper electroplating processes.
